Description
'Among the Elephants' by Iain and Oria Douglas-Hamilton recounts their years living and working among African elephants at Lake Manyara in Tanzania. Drawing on Iain’s pioneering field research, the book describes elephant behaviour, social organisation and relationships, while also recounting the couple’s experiences of life in the African bush. Oria’s photographs complement the narrative, giving an intimate view of the elephants and the people studying them in their natural environment. First published in 1975, the book became an important early account of the scientific study of wild African elephants and of the Douglas-Hamiltons’ growing commitment to their conservation.
