Description
Cherry Kearton’s 'In the Land of the Lion' (1929) is an illustrated account of African wildlife drawn from his experiences as one of the early pioneers of wildlife photography. Across twenty chapters, Kearton describes the behaviour and lives of animals including lions, elephants, giraffes, hippopotamuses and rhinoceroses, alongside birds and insects of the African bush. The book combines lively observations of animal behaviour with accounts of the landscapes in which they lived, from sun-scorched bush to rivers and swamps, and is accompanied by numerous photographs. First published by J. W. Arrowsmith in London, the original edition runs to 256 pages and includes photographic plates.
