Description
'The Natural History of South Africa: Birds, Vol. I' by F. W. FitzSimons is the first volume of a two-volume work on the birds of South Africa, illustrated with photographs and colour plates. Rather than serving solely as a species catalogue, FitzSimons discusses the habits and economic importance of birds, particularly their role in agriculture and their relationships with insects and other elements of the natural environment. The second volume provides more extensive descriptions, distributions and habits of individual South African birds. First published by Longmans, Green and Co. in 1923, Volume I contains 446 pages and includes 10 coloured plates together with numerous photographic illustrations.
