The Philosophy of History — G. W. F. Hegel
1 in stock
Description
'The Philosophy of History' by G. W. F. Hegel presents his influential interpretation of world history as a rational process through which human freedom becomes progressively realised. Hegel examines the development of civilisation through major historical periods, including the ancient Oriental, Greek and Roman worlds and the Germanic world, and considers the role of religion, culture, political institutions and great historical figures in this development. At the centre of his account is the idea that history has an underlying rational structure, even though individuals and nations often act from particular ambitions and interests. Originally delivered as lectures at the University of Berlin and published posthumously in 1837, the work remains one of the most important and controversial texts in the philosophy of history.
