Description
'Erik Laubscher: A Life in Art' by Hans Fransen is a comprehensive monograph on the South African artist Erik Laubscher (1927–2013), published to accompany a major retrospective exhibition of his work at SMAC Art Gallery in Stellenbosch. The book traces Laubscher’s artistic development from his studies in London and Paris through his long career in South Africa, examining his paintings, drawings and evolving approach to abstraction. Particular attention is given to his landscapes, in which geometric forms and strong bands of colour became a distinctive means of interpreting the South African landscape. Published in 2009, the extensively illustrated volume contains 297 pages and includes colour reproductions and a portrait of the artist.
