Description
The Paintings of Norman Lighton for Roberts Birds of South Africa presents reproductions of the original bird paintings created by Norman C. K. Lighton for Austin Roberts’s landmark work on South African birds. Published in 1976 by the South African Natural History Publication Company, the volume showcases Lighton’s detailed illustrations in a much larger format than in the original field guide, allowing the birds’ colours, markings and fine features to be appreciated more fully. Edited by A. V. Bird, with contributions from C. S. Barlow, the book includes 51 colour plates reproducing surviving paintings from the original series. An impressive volume for bird enthusiasts, natural-history collectors and anyone interested in South African wildlife illustration.
