Description
'The Rise of South Africa, Vol. I' by G. E. Cory is the first volume of Cory’s major history of South African colonisation and its development towards the east, covering the period from the earliest times to 1820. Drawing on archival records, contemporary accounts and oral sources, Cory traces the early history of the Cape, European settlement, relations between colonists and indigenous peoples, frontier conflicts and the expansion of colonial authority into the eastern districts. First published by Longmans, Green and Co. in 1910, the work formed part of a six-volume history extending to 1857 and became an important early study of South African history. This volume is particularly valuable for readers interested in the early Cape Colony, the Eastern Cape and the origins of colonial expansion in South Africa.
