Description
'The Orchids of the Cape Peninsula' — Harry Bolus 'The Orchids of the Cape Peninsula' is a pioneering work on the orchids of the Cape Peninsula by South African botanist Harry Bolus. Originally published in 1888 with 36 plates, this enlarged second edition of 1918 was prepared by Harriet M. L. Bolus and Alice M. Greene and greatly expanded the work, with descriptions accompanied by 119 lithographed plates, many partly coloured. It provides a detailed record of the Peninsula’s remarkable orchid flora, combining botanical description with finely rendered illustrations of the plants. An important early contribution to South African botanical literature, this edition is particularly notable for its scientific and historical value as a record of the region’s indigenous orchids.
