Description
'The Cape Orchids' is a comprehensive two-volume monograph on the orchids of the Cape Floristic Region by William R. Liltved and Steven D. Johnson, published by Sandstone Editions in 2012. Covering all 241 orchid species native to the region, it examines their classification, ecology, distribution, biology and natural history, with the species accounts forming the main body of the work. The set contains more than 2,000 colour photographs, along with historical botanical illustrations and contemporary watercolours, and includes chapters on subjects such as orchid morphology, pollination, fire, hybridisation and the history of botanical exploration in the Cape. A substantial reference work for botanists and plant enthusiasts, it represents more than two decades of fieldwork and research into the remarkable orchid flora of the Cape Floristic Region.
