Description

'Scenic Splendours: India Through the Printed Image' by Pheroza Godrej and Pauline Rohatgi explores the ways India was represented through European prints and illustrated views, particularly during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Drawing on material from the India Office Library and Records, the book examines British graphic representations of India's landscapes, architecture and monuments, showing how these images shaped Western perceptions of the country. The volume contains 32 colour and 82 black-and-white illustrations and includes a bibliography and index. Published in 1989 by the British Library and Arnold Publishers, the 167-page work is both an art-historical study and a visual survey of India's printed landscape imagery.
