Description
'Urartian Art and Artifacts: A Chronological Study' by Guitty Azarpay is a scholarly examination of the art and material culture of the ancient kingdom of Urartu, centred around Lake Van and the surrounding regions of the Near East. Azarpay arranges Urartian objects chronologically, tracing developments in artistic style and craftsmanship through successive phases of the kingdom's history. The study considers a wide range of archaeological material, including bronze objects, weapons, shields, ornaments, architectural decoration and other artefacts, drawing on material from excavated sites and major museum collections. First published by the University of California Press in 1968, the book includes 59 plates and 17 figures and remains an important work in the study of Urartian art and archaeology.
