Description

'Killer in the Rain' by Raymond Chandler is a collection of eight hard-boiled detective stories originally published in American pulp magazines between 1935 and 1941. The stories include 'Killer in the Rain', 'The Man Who Liked Dogs', 'The Curtain', 'Try the Girl', 'Mandarin’s Jade', 'Bay City Blues', 'The Lady in the Lake' and 'No Crime in the Mountains'. Set largely against the shadowy streets and landscapes of Southern California, the stories combine murder, corruption, private detectives and Chandler’s distinctive mixture of laconic humour and vivid, atmospheric prose. First collected posthumously in 1964, the volume is particularly interesting for readers of Chandler’s novels, as several of these early stories provided material that he later reworked into novels including 'The Big Sleep', 'Farewell, My Lovely' and 'The Lady in the Lake'.
