Description
'The Mystery of Edwin Drood' is Charles Dickens’s final novel and centres on Edwin Drood, his fiancée Rosa Bud, and his jealous uncle John Jasper, a choirmaster with a secret obsession with Rosa. Set in the cathedral town of Cloisterham, the story takes a darker turn when Edwin mysteriously disappears on Christmas Eve, leaving behind a web of suspicion involving Jasper and several other characters. Dickens combines murder mystery, psychological tension and social satire, with opium dens and hidden identities adding to the atmosphere of intrigue. Dickens died in June 1870 before completing the novel, leaving the mystery of Edwin’s disappearance and the intended ending permanently unresolved.
