Description

'Tunc' by Lawrence Durrell is the first novel of his two-part 'Tunc and Nunquam' sequence, a surreal and satirical work centred on Felix Charlock, a British scholar and translator drawn into the mysterious multinational organisation known as the Merlin Group. As Felix becomes increasingly entangled with the company and its enigmatic founder, the novel explores technology, money, power, sexuality and the uneasy relationship between humanity and the modern industrial world. Durrell blends philosophical speculation with black humour, dreamlike episodes and deliberately shifting realities, creating a world in which corporations and machines seem to possess an unsettling life of their own. First published in 1968, 'Tunc' was followed by 'Nunquam' in 1970.
