The Mill on the Floss — George Eliot
1 in stock
Description
'The Mill on the Floss' by George Eliot follows the lives of siblings Maggie and Tom Tulliver as they grow up at Dorlcote Mill beside the River Floss in rural England. Maggie is imaginative, passionate and intellectually curious, but repeatedly comes into conflict with the expectations of her family and the society around her, while Tom is more conventional and determined to restore the family’s fortunes after their father suffers financial ruin. Their changing relationship is shaped by love, loyalty, social prejudice and the consequences of choices made under difficult circumstances. First published in 1860, the novel draws on Eliot’s own experiences of childhood and explores the tensions between individual desire, family duty and the restrictions imposed by society.
