Description

'The Dangerous Summer' is Ernest Hemingway’s nonfiction account of the intense rivalry between Spanish matadors Luis Miguel Dominguín and Antonio Ordóñez during the 1959 bullfighting season. Originally written for *Life* magazine in 1959–60, the work follows their contests across Spain, describing the dangers, skill, pride and pressures of the bullring. Hemingway also captures the landscapes, customs and atmosphere of Spain, while reflecting on courage, competition and his own relationship with bullfighting. Published posthumously in 1985, it offers a vivid late-career portrait of both the sport and Hemingway himself.
