Description
‘Period of Adjustment and Summer and Smoke’ — Tennessee Williams This volume brings together two plays by acclaimed American dramatist Tennessee Williams. ‘Period of Adjustment’ is a dark comedy about two couples confronting marital tensions, emotional wounds and the challenges of postwar life. ‘Summer and Smoke’ centres on Alma Winemiller, a minister’s daughter, and John Buchanan Jr., a young doctor whose contrasting views of spirituality and physical desire complicate their relationship. Together, the plays explore love, loneliness, social expectations and the struggle between idealism and desire. Published by Four Square in 1963.
