The Works of Matthew Arnold (Wordsworth Poetry Library)

Description

'The Poetical Works of Matthew Arnold' brings together the major poetry of one of Victorian England's most distinguished poets and critics. Arnold's poems are marked by their reflective tone and recurring concerns with faith, doubt, loss, nature and the uncertainties of modern life. The collection includes such well-known works as 'Dover Beach', 'The Scholar-Gipsy', 'Thyrsis' and 'Sohrab and Rustum', alongside a wide selection of his shorter poems. It provides a broad introduction to Arnold's distinctive blend of classical influence, intellectual seriousness and lyrical melancholy.
