Description
'Jake's Thing' by Kingsley Amis is a satirical novel about Jake Richardson, a nearly sixty-year-old Oxford don whose sudden loss of libido sends him in search of a cure. His attempts to recover his sexual desire lead him through the eccentric world of modern sex therapy, exposing him to dubious treatments, embarrassing exercises and changing attitudes towards sex and relationships. With Amis's characteristic comic sharpness, the novel explores ageing, masculinity, marriage and the sexual culture of the 1970s. First published in 1978, it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize that year.
