Description
'Daisy Miller' follows a young American woman travelling through Europe whose unconventional behaviour clashes with the strict social conventions of expatriate society. The story is narrated largely through Frederick Winterbourne, an American who becomes fascinated by Daisy while struggling to understand her character and intentions. Her refusal to conform to European expectations of propriety creates tension among those around her, particularly during her relationships with men in Rome. First published in 1878, the novella explores innocence, reputation, cultural differences and the conflict between individual freedom and social judgment.
