Description
'Face of South Africa' is a photographic portrait of South Africa during the apartheid era, created by Dutch-South African photographer Chris Jansen. Published in 1972 by Purnell & Sons in Cape Town, the book contains 172 pages of black-and-white photographs accompanied by an essay by Brian Barrow. Jansen documents the people, places and everyday life of the country, presenting both its social realities and its landscapes and visual character. The book provides a striking photographic record of South Africa at a particular and deeply divided period in its history.
