Description
'Remembering Irma: Irma Stern: A Memoir with Letters' is Mona Berman’s personal account of her family’s long friendship with the South African artist Irma Stern. Published by Double Storey in Cape Town in 2003, the book draws on Stern’s correspondence with Berman’s parents, Freda and Richard Feldman, who were close friends, patrons and collectors of her work. Berman combines her childhood memories with the letters exchanged over several decades, revealing Stern’s personality, relationships, travels in Africa and life as an artist. Illustrated with photographs and reproductions, the memoir offers an intimate perspective on one of South Africa’s most important twentieth-century painters.
