Description
Wolf Kibel (1903–1938) was a Polish-born South African painter and printmaker whose expressive, modernist style helped introduce Expressionism to South African art. After studying in Vienna and spending several years in Palestine, he settled in Cape Town in 1929, where he developed a distinctive approach characterised by bold colours, vigorous brushwork and expressive forms. His work includes portraits, still lifes and landscapes, reflecting both his artistic experimentation and his sensitivity to everyday life. Although he died young from tuberculosis, Kibel became an important figure in South African modern art, and his paintings are held in major public collections across the country.
