Description
'Sculptor of the Landscape' presents the work of South African land artist Strijdom van der Merwe, whose art is created directly within natural landscapes using materials found in his surroundings. His temporary interventions—made with stones, sand, leaves, wood, water and other natural elements—respond closely to the particular character of each site. The book documents his ephemeral works and explores the relationship between art, nature, place and time. It offers an introduction to one of South Africa’s best-known practitioners of land art and the striking landscapes in which his works were created.
