The Road of Excess - Ingrid Winterbach

Description

'The Road of Excess' by Ingrid Winterbach follows two brothers, Aaron and Stefaans Adendorff, whose lives are shaped by very different forms of excess and personal struggle. Aaron is an artist dealing with the death of his wife, a cancerous growth and growing uncertainty about his relationship with his gallery owner, while Stefaans, a recovering addict, looks back on his experiences with substance abuse and investigates the mysterious origins of their family. Their stories unfold alongside the eccentric Bubbles Bothma and a cast of characters who bring an increasingly strange and darkly comic quality to the narrative. A richly layered novel that combines illness, addiction, art, family history and apocalyptic unease with Winterbach’s distinctive wit and imagination.
