Description
This illustrated book documents South Africa’s historic post-office ceramic murals, many of which were created during the 1930s by artists associated with the Ceramic Studio at Olifantsfontein. The murals depict historical events, local landscapes, cultural traditions and aspects of the development of postal communication. Drawing on extensive research and photography, Osthoff records these artworks and their historical contexts, including murals at post offices whose buildings have since been altered or demolished. The book is a valuable reference for readers interested in South African architectural heritage, public art, ceramics and social history.
